Aspen Seasonnaire

A bit about Mitch
Hey I Mitch, Went to university, had enough schooling and decided a ski season would be great idea. Been in the industry for 6 years and spending my off season travelling, last few years been in Thailand for much of the summer, cant beat the snow in the winter and the beach in the summer.

What are you doing for work on your season?
Been a ski instructor for 4 years now, which is great, I get to be on the mountain all day and on again on my days off, not many people rack up 130 days plus in a season. So the lifestyle is great, though was a former liftie and the work was easy, but it’s all about the mountain

Is this your 1st season or are you a returning Seasonnaire?
This is my 6th season as a Seasonnaire, all 6 spent in Aspen, CO. Cant beat the powder and the no lift lines.

Skier/boarder
Skier through and through! Unfortunately was able to hang around with a few British skiers growing up and love the sport. Tried snowboarding, the board and I didn’t connect, think my first run was a groomed black run on a board.

Favourite Resort
Not going to beat around the bush when saying I think Aspen/Snowmass is my Favourite Resort, everything from the cruisy wide Snowmass rollers to hiking a 1000 vertical feet for inbound powder skiing at the Aspen Highlands bowl, to shooting through the trees and the old silver mine dumps on Aspen Mountain. Also cant beat the terrain park at buttermilk, home to the winter X Games. Though I suppose you cant beat the unlimited inbound runs of Portillo, Chile that always comes a second favorite.

Role model- favourite rider
Chris Davenport, need I say more. Old school extreme skier and lucky enough to live in aspen and ski with him, so it just makes it a bit more real when your skiing on the same slopes as your ideal. Just completed skiing all 14,000 feet mountains in Colorado, Extreme champion twice I believe.

What you are looking forward to the most this season
The SNOW!!! More and more of it, had a record year last season so hoping to repeat it this year! Though chilling out in Aspen with friends can be beat!

One goal you have set yourself to achieve for 08/09 season?
My goal this season is to spend as much time on the hill as possible, one year a few years ago I clocked over 160 days on the snow, but that did include a trip to Portillo, Chile and October skiing on a glacier in Europe. Might be a good year to beat my record.

Any advice out there for people contemplating a ski season
I recommend everyone and anybody to do one; I did one straight after uni, and am still here. Lifestyle is great, the people are great and if you ever want to get good at skiing/boarding then it’s the only way to do it.
